Hero Technologies
This week marked the completion of my second portfolio project: a website for Hero Technologies, a publicly traded independent sponsor company.
While the project itself focused on Hero Technologies, a significant aspect involved choosing the right Content Management System (CMS). Having experience with both Prismic and Sanity, I opted for Prismic due to my existing comfort level with the platform. This decision was crucial as it ultimately determines the level of control the client has over their website content.
Beyond the core development framework and CMS, I incorporated additional features to enhance the user experience. ShadeCn, a component library, provided the building blocks for the website's structure, while Next.js themes enabled the implementation of light and dark mode functionality.
Stepping Outside the Comfort Zone: Video Backgrounds and Stock Charts
This project presented a unique opportunity to experiment with new functionalities. One challenge involved embedding video backgrounds to create a visually immersive experience. Additionally, I embedded a live stock market chart to keep visitors informed about Hero Technologies' financial performance.
Integrating these elements seamlessly required careful performance optimization. To achieve this, I leveraged Firebase as a CDN storage solution for all the website's videos. This approach ensured fast loading times and a smooth user experience.
Learning and Building: A Rewarding Experience
As my second project on Upwork, building the Hero Technologies website was not only a professional accomplishment but also a rewarding learning experience. It allowed me to explore new functionalities within Next.js and gain valuable experience in optimizing website performance for rich media content.
